The ASSIST4 NES module gives the exporter full control over the NES declarations

The New Export System (NES) is an electronic, export processing system developed by UK Customs in consultation with trade & industry. NES enables exporters and agents to send export declarations electronically to the Customs CHIEF computer system. Since full implementation of NES, all direct third-country shipments from the UK must be declared through this system. Paper declarations (SAD C88) are no longer accepted.

Ensure that export licenses are correctly stated on the NES declaration to Customs.

For exporters dealing with licensable goods, it is necessary to ensure that export licenses are correctly stated on the NES declaration to Customs. Exporters that make arrangements for their forwarders to make the NES declarations run the risk that incorrect declarations may be made on their behalf. A recent HMRC survey of over 18,000 export declarations showed that up to 20% of these are incorrect. In such circumstances, it is not the forwarder that is legally liable for the mistakes made, but the exporter and this is regardless of the Incoterm used.

The ASSIST4 NES module gives the exporter full control over the declarations being made, and as it is fully integrated with the ASSIST4 Export License Management module, export license data present in the consignment is automatically carried forward onto the NES declaration.
An additional benefit of in-sourcing and having an automated NES declaration is the reduction in cost realised as you are not charged for each declaration. In many instances, this cost is significant.
ASSIST4, the IT solution for logistics, provides full functionality to cover the NES requirements such as message handling, EDIFACT conversion, linking to the CHIEF system, etc.

The main features of the ASSIST4 NES module include

  • Direct communication links from the ASSIST4 system to Customs CHIEF system.
  • Handling of submissions, acknowledgements, errors, etc. directly from within the ASSIST4 system.
  • All necessary EDIFACT conversions to HMRC specifications are automatically handled by the ASSIST4
  • Communication Management System (ACMS) without the need for user intervention, eliminating manual re-keying.
  • Customs declarations are made by a secure and approved route to the Customs CHIEF system.
  • Export license data present in the consignment is automatically carried forward onto the NES declaration.
  • Copy 3 SAD produced on demand.

The NES module can be easily integrated into an existing ASSIST4 system or as a new installation within your business environment.
